Canary Constructs builds mid-rise apartments, fit-outs and community buildings across Newcastle and the Hunter. We flag the problems early, while they're still cheap to fix, and you can read our site diary every day.
What we do
We're a construction company: a mid-sized builder of about 64 people, building in the $5 million to $60 million range. Most of our work is mid-rise residential, with commercial fit-outs and community buildings beside it. Every job has one project lead from tender to handover.
Mid-rise residential
Apartment buildings of four to eight storeys, from early works to handover. Most of our work is here.
Commercial fit-outs
Offices, clinics and shop fronts, built around tenants who are still trading.
Community buildings
Club houses, childcare centres and small public buildings for councils and not-for-profits.
Tools we work in
We run our sites in Procore, our accounts in Xero, and our in-house digital team, Canary Digital, tracks its work in Jira and keeps its code on GitHub. Clients and subcontractors don't need any of these to work with us, but if you already use them, we'll plug in.
Why builders pick a canary
Miners took canaries underground because a canary notices trouble first. Newcastle was built on coal, and we took the name for the same reason: we'd rather tell you about a problem in week two than in month ten.
